Oak Tree Class

Welcome to Oak Tree Class!

Hello and welcome to the Oak Tree class page where you will find information about the fun, exciting learning that has been happening each term.

This term our topic is "Beside the Seaside"

In Maths we will learn about counting, number and we will play a range of Maths games to reinforce the one to one correspondence of counting forwards and back. Our Reception children will focus on counting and exploring numbers. The year 1 and 2 children will continue work on exploring number and counting, learning about place value and begin to add and subtract.

In English the children will enjoy listening to stories about the seaside, animals that live under the sea and characters within the stories. The Y1 and 2 children will eventually have a go at writing their own. In history we will find out about how seaside holidays used to be in the past and how people travelled to the coast looking at how things are different today.

In Science we will be finding out about and describing different sea animals, how they are suited to living in the different layers of the ocean.  We will carry out simple investigations to see what salt water does to materials relating it to pollution and how we can "Save our Planet"  .

In RE, the children will be focusing on "Special places and symbols of the church" They will find out that the cross is one symbol that all Christians share

In our topic work the children will find out what the seaside is, where they can be found and what seaside holidays are like today in comparison to a long time ago. In art and DT the children can explore different medium including paint, oil pastels and chalks with a particular focus on colour mixing in order to paint "seascapes"

ICT will include learning about E-safety and what it means to be safe online. .

PSHE will be ongoing with "Being Responsible"  and mindfulness on a daily basis.
