World Ocean Day
Today is World Ocean Day. As we have been learning about persuasive writing, I would like you to think about the turtles in the ocean and the effects that pollution has on them.
Read through the websites and find out about sea turtles. Record your facts on the mind map that is in the resources section. Think about why they are important to the environment and how humans are effecting their existence.
Think about the main threats to the turtles: Is it pollution? Fishing? Not allowing them to breed on beaches?
I would then like you to think of solutions to the problems you have identified. Record in the problems and solutions resource,
Have a look at some leaflets in the resources section and identify the way that they have been presented to engage the audience. Features such as title, sub titles, pictures and fact boxes are ways to capture attention. List the features so that you can use them as a guide in writing your own leaflet.
Using the features of persuasive writing that you found last week, I would like you to draft, edit and write a leaflet that explains the importance of sea turtles to our environment, how they are endangered and how we as humans could help their survival in the oceans of the world.
How would you persuade the public to help the turtles? You need to include statistics to ensure that your writing is powerful and gets your message across to your audience. Rhetorical questions, repetition, your opinions, facts and suggestions in ways to help.
Edit and check your writing, then produce a final version of your writing which is appealing to the audience to read. You could include pictures and diagrams, maps etc.
Then send your work via email to the KS2 teachers.
